This week, Costa Rican President Lisa Chinchilla signed an executive order that bans shark finning in Costa Rica's coastal waters, as well as transporting and importing fins from other countries.
This decree will help to protect the many fascinating and beautiful shark species that populate Central America's coastlines. It's also great news for scuba divers, snorkelers, and ecotourists who travel to Central America to appreciate its extraordinary wildlife!
The signing ceremony was held at Manuel Antonio National Park, a biologically important protected area and popular ecotourism destination.
