Ometepe Island is a splendid tropical paradise located in Lake Nicaragua. It covers an area of 106 square miles (276 square km.) and is formed by two volcanoes - Concepcion, an active volcano, and Maderas, a dormant volcano with a crater lake. Ometepe also hosts the Laguna Charco Verde Natural Reserve, a vital habitat for migratory birds. In addition to its magnificent natural attractions, which also includes the San Ramon waterfall, the island also has archaeological sites and local museums.
