Description

This Lancandon family campground is located in the heart of the Lacandon forest, just 2.5 hours from Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico. It is an authentic, rustic place, where you can live as part of our pleasant community and forget your daily routine. Your host, Enrique Chan Kin Paniagua, is a Lacandon who started offering campground services in 2003 and is very proud of his native culture. He strives to share and conserve his culture through traditional handicrafts and costumes; chatting with him about Lacandon traditions and sharing his knowledge and respect for the natural treasures of the forest and the traditional farming systems is an unforgettable experience.

The Top Che Campground offers lodging in cabins or in a campground; there are also food services and guided walks in the forest to discover our marvelous surroundings. We are also located close to the Lacanjá, Bonampak, and Yaxchilan archeological sites.

Making a Difference

The Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve is facing serious environmental problems from deforestation, agricultural expansion, and more. The Top Che Campground is helping to mitigate these threats by restoring areas that were once used for farming. The campground is also raising local awareness about the importance of the ecosystem.

In order to restore and re-establish basic ecological systems, the Top Che Campground has determined that the areas suitable for restoration are sites that were once used for traditional Lacandon corn fields; in this way, we foster the evolution and continuity of natural processes.

The business that manages this campground is owned by the families that will serve you and the income from ecotourism goes directly to the families that live and work there.
