This 25-room seafront hideaway combines natural wonders with luxury. Accommodations are individual thatched cottages, decorated with hand-crafted Balinese furnishings and naturally cooled by the ever-present sea breezes. Just steps beyond your private deck, the white-sand beach dissolves into the clear Caribbean ocean. In addition, two swimming pools offer a choice of freshwater and saltwater bathing.
With its friendly, attentive staff, two restaurants, a rejuvenating spa, and idyllic seafront setting, Turtle Inn is a perfect refuge for those seeking a stress-relieving getaway. But our unique location also provides a wealth of exciting activities. The coral reef just offshore offers some of the best diving in the world, and our dive shop can accommodate the needs of both beginners and experienced divers. Inland hikes to hidden lagoons, canoe trips up the Monkey River, and the short bicycle ride into our local Belizean town also enrich our guests’ experience of this magical country.
Balinese-inspired cabanas have artisan-crafted furnishings, a luxury private bath, and a broad screened deck to welcome in the tropical sea air. Choose from several types of cottages and villas ranging from one to three beds.
Francis Ford and Eleanor Coppola see their role as that of conservators that preserve the pristine environment. They strongly support Belize’s commitment to ecotourism and continue to explore new technologies and practices that benefit the environment.
Design and construction of facilities:
We have created buildings that blend into the natural environment. We use low-profile, environmentally sound designs that use thatch, hardwoods, pine, and bamboo, along with regionally produced tiles. We use local and regional plants for landscaping that do not rely on intensive irrigation.
Energy and water efficiency:
Our rooms are designed in a way so that we do not need air conditioning. We use mulch to reduce transpiration from flower beds, landscaped areas, and the organic garden.
Flow control showerheads are used in the bathrooms at all properties. All swimming and plunge pools are sanitized with non-chlorine based treatments.
Francis Ford Coppola Resorts and properties support several organizations and individuals in a continuing effort to preserve the biodiversity of Belize and Guatemala:
At Turtle Inn the produce is truly local. Our gardening staff grows all the organic vegetables and many of the fruits used at the resort.
Blancaneaux Lodge and Turtle Inn have had their sustainable tourism practices and operations Verified by the Rainforest Alliance.
We currently provide full academic scholarships to five local students. Scholarships include all tuition fees and books. All students, once accepted, must provide progress reports throughout the four-year scholarship.
We also contribute to the Cornerstone Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to the poor and needy, and the health clinic in Placencia to help assist in the cost of medicines and medical equipment. Additionally, we provide contributions throughout the year for the advancement of local sports in Placencia, as well as in San Ignacio.
